Waikīkī cRUISERS QUEER SURF CLUB
Waikīkī beach; birthplace of modern surfing and home to Queens Surf Beach, the ancestrally queer epicenter of surf culture. It’s ALWAYS BEEN A GATHERING PLACE FOR THE COMMUNITY. (THAT’S WHAT THEY CALL IT THESE DAYS.)
Beloved by Māhū icons like The Ladies of the Diamond Cattleya, Sonny Ching, Robert Cazimero, Sterling “The Hula Cap” Edwin Kilohana Mossman, Queens Beach was the location of Hawaii’s first organized LGBTQIA+Māhū event; a Gay Pride Parade 1974. So long as there’s been surfing, there’s been queer and Māhū surfing.
ROMER HOUSE IN Waikīkī LOVES ITS QUEER COMMUNITY, AND AS A WAY TO SUPPORT AND CELEBRATE THIS TREASURE OF A COMMUNITY, THE Waikīkī CRUISERS WAS DEVELOPED.
